Egads, i can confirm that this script reproduces the problem on my machine as
well:
ALTER TABLE xxx RENAME TO yyy;
ALTER TABLE
ALTER TABLE yyy RENAME COLUMN col1 TO colA;
ERROR: relation "yyy" does not exist
