Hello,
PgUS is planning on sponsoring a couple of PgDays this winter. We would
like to sponsor one here in Portland. PgUS is willing to handle all
facilities and amenities but we would need PDXPug to handle the
"running" of the day.
We are envisioning a Sat in Dec or January.
Thoughts?

I cannot do any Saturdays. Other than that, it sounds like a good idea.

I can definitely help run it! Sundays are better for me, though.

I can't imagine anyone showing up on a Sunday. (maybe I am on crack).

What's the theme, or audience PgUS wants to target?

I imagined it would be like the first West where it was technical and
laid back I am certainly open to ideas, this is your (PDXPug) gig.

My initial thought is that If we did something similar to the very
first time, specifically with PSU at PSU, it would be easier to
schedule a room in December, assuming the buildings don't shutdown for
the winter break but it may be easier to get a more PSU people
involved if it was done in January. I don't think I have a feel for
whether a weekend or weekday would be a better time to have it...

Oh, well I figured we would just grab a hotel breakout room.

How many people would we expect, and do we need more than one presentation area?

O.k. maybe I should break this down a bit more :D
PgUS would like to sponsor a PgDay for the PDX Area. Obviously as this
is PDXPug it makes sense for PDXPug to run it.
PgUS will provide:
A Single Breakout room that will seat anywhere from 30-70 (depending on
how we want to set it up).
Registration facilities (PgUS website)
Speaker submission facilities (PgUS website)
Donation facilities (PgUS website)
Projector
Microphone.
The event would be free, but we would ask for donations.
What PDXPUG needs to do is:
* Determine if PDXPUG wants to do this.
* Determine who is going to be point for the PgDay. (Organizer)
* When to do it. January/Feb is best.
* 5-7 speakers
Sincerely,
Joshua D.D rake

Thanks for the details. :) I think this is a great idea, and I'm
excited that PgUS is offering these options to PUGs.
Here's what I'm wondering - we just had one of these in July, the day
before OSCON. We'll likely/hopefully be having one again in 2011, the
day before OSCON. I'm feeling like having a PgDay in winter might be
crowding the events calendar; plus I suspect it is easier to get
people to travel to a one-day event like this when it's held in
conjunction with another conference.
Maybe it would be better to hold this in a different city? (Like,
somewhere with some sun. :koffkoff: ) Or could you adjust your
expectations for the scheduling, and we could set something up prior
to OSCON? I would love to work with PgUS for this, I'm just not sure
that Portland is the ideal place given the suggested timeframe.

How about Burns? It's sunny there.

Well the idea is to *not* have people travel. For example, we want to
have one up in Seattle too. I mean maybe some pdx people would show up
there but the idea is to support the local communities.

We are. We are looking at Seattle, one in SF etc...
