Where can I find server builders in the Portland metro area?
I'm planning a new ESXi server (it will run Postgres -- there, no longer off
topic -- heh heh) with 12 cores, 192gb ram, 72tb disk, etc. Normally I'd
build it myself, but these days I'm thinking about just paying someone else
to do the work for me. I already have a build configuration (see below) that
I would prefer to use, but I am flexible.
I've found dozens of white box system integrators in California and
elsewhere, but I'd prefer to find someone local if possible. Here is the
best I could come up with my google fu:
http://www.endpcnoise.com/
http://www.nordisksystems.com/
http://www.otcpdx.com/
http://www.pacificsolutions.com/server.htm
http://www.teamlogicit.com/
I know there has to be more. Maybe some local colo facilities know who the
builders are?
In case you are curious, here is the configuration I'm planning with prices
from newegg. Comments are welcome, but that's probably even *more* off topic
than I already am.
$4800 HDD - 24 WD WD30EFRX (3tb)
$1820 RAM - 24 M393B1K70DH0-CK0 (8gb 1600 Reg ECC dual rank, $76(at)CDW)
$800 CPU - Two Xeon E5-2620 (6 core, 15mb cache, 2.0ghz)
$500 MB - Supermicro X9DR3-LN4F+ (24 dimm, onboard 8-port SAS)
$600 HBA - Two LSI SAS 9207-8i
$400 Case - Norco 4224 (24 3.5-inch hot swap bays, 3 SAS backplanes)
$170 PS - 1000w Kingwin Lazer
======
$9090
Thanks in advance,

I can't help with server builders but I suggest you have at least dual
(if not more) and hot-swappable power supplies in the system.
Otherwise I drool.

DB,
I have a lot of experience doing system/server builds (several
thousand early in my career), however, it's not my primary business these
days. I still do a handfull of systems every year.
If you did find a good local system builder, I'd be interested in who is
available.

And when the mobo "pops a cap", or your ethernet card goes wonky...
Whoever you engage for server building should be balancing power (in
terms of equipment capacity, not wattage) and redundancy costs. The
most powerful server in the world can be brought down by a single
cheap component.

Which begs the question of why only one server.
