When: Tue 5th April

Where: James Squire Brew House (JSBH) from 18:30 onwards

What: We are currently deciding on a number of topics, such as:

- the PostgreSQL optimiser

- PostgreSQL replication

- PostgreSQL and Ruby: inner beauty

- PostgreSQL and Java: unleash the demon!

- MyPostgreSQL: spawn of satan?

If you would like to offer your knowledge or expertise, or more
importantly your observations of problems you have encountered
with PostgreSQL please let us know.

If there are particular topics of interest to you, then feel

When:
Tuesday, April 5, 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Where:
James Squire Brewery

The April meeting of the Sydney Linux Users Group will be held on the
5th of April. Meet us at the James Squire Brew House at King St Wharf
from 18:30 onwards.

Gavin Sherry will be giving a follow up to Anand's talk last month. This
talk will explore the mechanisms available in PostgreSQL which can be
used to ensure data integrity: unique indexes, column level constraints
and foreign keys.

Neil will be delivering a talk on the PostgreSQL query planner. This is
a first look at the talk he plans to deliver at linux.conf.au.

The final talk of the evening will be on techniques to migrate
PostgreSQL to MySQL, including transforming NULL date columns to
0000-0-0, storing those pesky numbers which are greater than 2^31 and a
script to remove error checking code from Java and C applications, since
it is now redundant. For more information and background reading see
this site.

NOTE: There might be a video + postgresql talk as well.

Cheers,
Anand

So we're having a joint meeting of the Sydney Linux Users Group and
the Sydney PostgreSql Users group at the James Squire Brew House at
King St Wharf? Won't it be a bit crowded?

No - I think it is important to keep thw wider Linux community aware of
when and where SydPUG meets, just as DebSIG keeps people appraised of
their events.

SLUG has its meetings at UTS, my message to slug is just informational
for anyone there who might be interested in turning up. Sometimes you'll
be surprised at who does. Also, if you have any calendar software which
supports iCal you can now keep track of SydPUG meetings.

Fair enough, although you do start out by saying "The April meeting of
the Sydney Linux Users Group will be..." which made think there was a
joint meeting. Perhaps you meant to say PostgreSql instead of Linux in
opening line the next meeting announcement?

This was a rather silly thought-o on my part. Sorry for the confusion.
